I started gymnastics when I was 9 years old and starting competing when
I was 11 years old at level 5. Before the gym closed, I decided to switch
gyms as there were rumors that the gym would be closing. Moving to TAGS
Gymnastics was my best decision. I've competed at TAGS at levels 6, 7,
8, 9 and level 10. I will be competing this year at level 10 for
the full year.
In the last few years I have learned so much. I have proved to myself through
gymnastics that I can truly accomplish anything if I set my mind to it, work
hard, and focus. My confidence was first bumped up when I qualified to event
finals on beam, as a level 8 at the Northern Lights Meet in 2006 and won 5th
place. Although I struggled through numerous injuries (broken foot and
fracture to back) through my first level 9 season, my hard work paid off when
I qualified to regional nationals. I not only qualified to
regions again, but I was also the region beam champion in my age group and
qualified to the western national meet in Missouri.
I completed a very successful year last year where I gained much more
confidence and my skills became more consistent. At the Harley
Davidson Invitational meet in WI, I broke the club record for level 9 on bars
with a 9.65. I also had the chance to compete as a level 10 this last
year in St. Louis. This was very exciting and a huge opportunity for
me. I ended up competing 4 for 4 with a highlight score of 9.0 on beam
and placed 5th. I was successful in qualifying to regionals where
I finished as beam and all-around champion with 3rd in floor and 4th in
bars. At Western Nationals in OK, I finished 2nd in beam, 2nd in
bars and 7th in the AA.
What has increased my love for gymnastics is my amazing teammates who are
always there for me for support. They are more like sisters to me rather than
just friends. I can always count on them to be there for me.
My friends at school are the same way. They support me in gymnastics and love
to watch videos of me when they can't make it to my meets. This last year, I
had another great year at Eagan High School. I finished my junior year very
successfully. I have been on the Honor Roll since I was in 6th grade, and I
am currently class ranked in the top 10 of my class. I participated in my
school's Bel Canto choir and also in the S.A.D.D. [Students Against
Destructive Decisions] program as Secretary. I lettered in academically and
have been active in Student Government.
All of these were very rewarding in different ways. In the spring, I
participate in volleyball through the Eagan Athletic Association with my
friends. Together, we’ve won the championship two years in a row.
Whenever I'm not at school or gymnastics, I love hanging out with my friends
and family, traveling, swimming, watching TV and just relaxing!
